SC to consider lifting ban on registration of diesel vehicles

New Delhi, Jun 29 (UNI)The Supreme Court today said it would consider and also open to lifting the ban on the registration of diesel vehicles in the national capital with a condition that there would a one time time levy of environment compensation cess.
“We are inclined to allow registration. We are open to the registration subject to some kind of one-time cess,” a three-judge bench of the Apex Court, headed by Chief justice of India (CJI) Tirath Singh Thakur and also comprising Justice Arjan Kumar Sikri and Justice R Banumathi said.
The apex court had earlier on 16 December, last year banned registration of diesel-run sports utility vehicles and high-end private cars with engine capacity of 2000 CC and above till 31 March. Later, the ban on registration was extended till further orders.
