Patna, Jan 23 (UNI) Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday alleged that the situation was grim in all sectors including health, education and infrastructures during the RJD regime in Bihar.
Kumar during the third phase of Pragati Yatra in Saharsa, said in a review meeting on the execution of various ongoing development and social welfare projects, that before his government was voted to power in Bihar in 2005, law and order situation in the state was bad but it improved remarkably after sustained efforts of his government. Earlier during the RJD regime, not only law and order situation had totally collapsed but communal amity was also badly affected, he added.
" Reports of communal disturbance used to come to light often during the RJD regime", Chief Minister said adding that communal violence and other sorts of disturbances relating to hatred among various sections of society had come under control due to sustained efforts of his government. Similarly, the scenario in the health sector was also a matter of grave concern during the previous regime before 2005, when his government was voted to power, he added.
" Only 30 patients used to visit Primary Health Centres for their treatment due to unavailability of medicines and virtually no deployment of doctors there", Kumar said adding that his government had taken steps for the availability of all required medicines and also ensured that doctors remained on duty. The result of initiatives taken by his government was now visible as more than 11000 patients were getting treated in Primary Health Centres against only 30 patients per month during the RJD regime, informed.
Chief Minister said that Self Help Groups(SHGs) named Jeevika Diidis were constituted by his government after taking a loan from the World Bank. His government had extended all support to women associated with Self Help Groups and they became financially independent and also contributed positively to the rural economy, he pointed out.
" Centre was impressed with the initiative taken by his government and the 'Aajeevika' Self Help Group was rolled out at the National level. Qualitative change in the condition of women after the initiative taken by his government was visible all along in rural areas, he added. Similar initiatives were now being taken by his government in urban areas as well, he added.
