Security Cordons remain as authorities await safe access to mysterious containers

Mumbai, Sep 8 (UNI) Three containers from the sunken cargo vessel MV Phoenix 15 have washed ashore in the Palghar district, while recovery operations are hampered by high tidal conditions. Two containers were discovered at Satpati beach while one was found at Shirgaon beach, after local fishermen initially spotted them floating approximately five kilometers offshore.
Vivekanand Kadam, Chief of the Disaster Management Cell of Palghar, confirmed that authorities are coordinating with the Indian Coast Guard for safe recovery operations. "Due to high tide, it is currently difficult to access and examine the containers. We are coordinating with the Coast Guard to ensure a safe and controlled recovery operation," Kadam explained. The Indian Coast Guard and Palghar Police have maintained security cordons around the affected beach areas to prevent public access.
The exact contents of the containers remain unknown, raising significant safety concerns among the local authorities. Bomb disposal and hazardous materials teams remain on standby until the containers can be thoroughly inspected and cleared by experts. Officials have not ruled out any possibilities regarding the nature of the cargo, and investigations are examining whether these containers contained hazardous materials or were part of legitimate commercial cargo lost during rough seas.
