Srinagar, June 12 (UNI) Security forces apprehended an overground worker (OGW) on Wednesday and recovered arms and ammunition from his possession in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
Based on specific information provided by the Border Security Force (BSF) regarding the transshipment of arms and ammunition, and explosives by an OGW, a joint checkpoint was established at Reddi Chowkibal market by the BSF, Army & Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday.
During the search, an OGW identified as Shabir Ahmad, a resident of Gujar Basti, Ladriwam Kupwara, was apprehended, BSF said.
1 pistol, 4 hand grenades, and 2 Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) were also recovered from the possession of OGW, they said.
“It is reliably learned that the terrorists were planning to use these stores to carry out terrorist activities during the forthcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra in Srinagar and surrounding areas," they said.
This operation has delivered a major blow to the nefarious designs of Pakistan occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK)-based terrorist groups, who have always aspired to disturb the peace and tranquility in Kashmir Valley, they added.
