Shanta Kumar welcomes SC’s move on excluding creamy layer from SC/ST quota

Palampur, Aug 14 (UNI) Former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister and ex-Union Minister Shanta Kumar has welcomed the Supreme Court’s decision to admit a petition seeking the exclusion of the creamy layer from Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) reservation benefits.
Shanta Kumar talking to UNI congratulated petitioner Ramshankar Prajapati and thanked the apex court for accepting the plea for consideration. He alleged that while reservation for SC/ST communities was intended to uplift the disadvantaged, its benefits have largely been cornered by a few affluent and influential families within these groups.
“In many villages, families from these communities have produced multiple IAS officers and reaped repeated benefits of reservation, while others in the same caste remain trapped in extreme poverty without ever availing it,” he said.
