Shivakumar faces political test as Kumaraswamy forces surprise contest

Bengaluru, June 8 (UNI) A late political strike by the Janata Dal (Secular) has turned the Karnataka Legislative Council elections into a direct test of strength for Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, after union Minister HD Kumaraswamy pushed the race into a contest by fielding a surprise candidate at the eleventh hour.
The entry of Govindaraju has dismantled what was until recently expected to be a smooth, near-unanimous election for seven Upper House seats, forcing a competitive vote involving eight candidates for seven positions.
What was largely seen as a settled arithmetic between the ruling Congress and the BJP has now been disrupted, with the JDS move injecting uncertainty into the electoral calculations and raising the spectre of cross-voting by MLAs.

Telangana CEO directs officials to expedite electoral roll revision

Sudharsan Reddy on Tuesday directed district election officials to expedite the Special Intensive Revision (SIR)-2026 of electoral rolls and ensure that over 90 per cent of the enumeration process is completed by the end of this week.
