Six die after being run over by truck in Lakhimpur

Lakhimpur Kheri, Jan 29 (UNI) Six persons were killed and several others were injured after being run over by a truck in City Kotwali area in Lakhimpur Kheri district here in Uttar Pradesh after which Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced a financial assistance of Rs 2 lakh to the kin of the deceased on Sunday, police sources said here on.
Police sources said that the incident took place late on Saturday night when the speeding truck ran over the people on Lakhimpur-Bahraich road. "While five persons were killed on the spot, one succumbed to his injuries at the trauma center in Lucknow," they said.
Police sources said that the deceased have been identified as Karan Nishad (20), Paras (85), Rizwan (16), Karunesh Verma (35), Virendra Verma (52) and Rohit (17). "Most of the deceased and injured were neighbours of Pangi Khurd village. The victims had gathered on the spot following a minor accident involving a car and a two-wheeler," they said.
Meanwhile, CM Yogi has expressed grief over the accident and instructed district authorities to extend all aid and assistance to the injured. "The CM has announced a financial assistance of Rs 50,000 to the injured and has ordered an inquiry headed by the Inspector General of Police (IG)," a government spokesman said.
