Soundgarden pays tribute to Black Sabbath

Seattle, July 15 (UNI) American metal/rock giants Soundgarden opening up about their inability to play in Black Sabbath’s farewell ‘Back To The Beginning’ concert in Birmingham, have said they were “super bummed” about not being able to play despite the invite.
They congratulated the English metal pioneers for a grand sendoff, stating that while their “greatness has echoed in others”, the “crown” will always be theirs.

In a statement on their social media, members Kim Thayil, Ben Shepherd and Matt Cameron, paid a long and passion filled tribute to the band, and revealed that they had been invited to play at the show, directed by Rage Against The Machine and Audioslave guitarist Tom Morello, but were unable to attend due to scheduling tour conflicts.

In their message, the band wrote: "Congratulations to Black Sabbath on the grand and final pealing of their vesper bells!

"Thank you for an astounding career that provided us and your legion of fans with a lifetime of beauty, horror, love, power, happiness, melancholy and a profoundly sublime, yet viscerally rocking transcendence informed by both doom and hope. Your majestic brilliance has inspired greatness in scores of other bands, musicians and songwriters. However, the crown will forever remain yours!

"We are very grateful to Tony, Ozzy, Geezer and Bill, as well as Sharon Osbourne and music director, Tom Morello for the honour and invitation to Soundgarden to perform at the Back to the Beginning festival!

“We are super bummed and regret that we were unable to coordinate the schedules of our individual and collective projects to attend and contribute to the festival. The warmth, love and support from the Black Sabbath team has been a continuing source of encouragement and strength throughout our career."

The band, known for chart topping iconic tracks like ‘Black Hole Sun’, ‘Jesus Christ Stoned’, ‘Fell on Black Days’, ‘Slaves and Bulldozers’, among several others have long called the band their biggest influence, with their playing style also being compared to the group.
