Special Intensive Revision flags over one-third electors for deletion in 10 border districts

Kolkata, Dec 15 (UNI) In a significant development, 10 of West Bengal’s 23 districts that share international borders account for more than one-third of the total proposed deletions in the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, highlighting longstanding concerns over porous borders and potential infiltration in these regions.
According to data obtained by UNI, 22,00,858 electors across these districts have been flagged for deletion, primarily on three grounds: death, change of residence, or absence during field verification, underscoring the scale of the exercise in the state’s sensitive border belt.
Together, these 10 districts have a combined electorate of 3,96,33,580, representing a substantial portion of West Bengal’s total electorate of 7,66,37,529. Across the state, a total of 58,17,851 electors have been identified for deletion, with the border districts alone accounting for 37.9% of all proposed removals..
