SPPU’s Research Center to be set up at AIT

Pune, Feb 24 (UNI) "The new education policy includes research, innovation, holistic education, interdisciplinary education, etc. We have to encourage the students for research-based, out-of-frame, as well as to pursue the education of their choice. Army Institute of Technology’s student’s talent and research approach is very appreciable and to take this in mind I would like to offer University’s research center at AIT Pune,” said Dr. Nitin Karmalkar, Vice Chancellor of Savitribai Phule Pune University.
Dr. Karmalkar was addressing the gathering at AIT Foundation day as the Chief Guest. He spoke about the essence of New Education Policy and its impact on higher education institutions like AIT. He recalled the day when India was a global center of learning with great universities like the Nalanda, Takshshila and Vikramshila, where multidisciplinary choice in education was the key to success of its students. The national education policy is now attempting to reorient the education of the nation towards this. He complimented AIT for focusing on all round development of its students and promoting entrepreneurship. Impressed with the innovation culture at AIT, he proposed that AIT should establish an affiliated research centre and it is ideally placed for the same. He recalled his close interactions with Army fraternity in the 1980, during his research on Himalaya ecology, in the areas of Dras and Kargil. The function was held in a hybrid mode, with many guests and award recipients joining online.
On the occasion of 27th foundation day, AITv conferred the Life Time Achievement award to Padmashree Dr. Raman Gangakhedkar, ex Head Scientist of Epidemiology and Communicable Diseases at the Indian Council of Medical Research for his outstanding contribution in the field of epidemiology especially during the onset of COVID pandemic in India. Two AIT alumni of 2000 batch Mr Baljeet Singh and Praveen Prakash, co-founders of startups mTatva and Simbo.ai, were jointly awarded the Successful Entrepreneur Award. Mr. Baljeet and Mr. Praveen gave huge credit to AIT for their successful launch of AI based Medical Assistant, which has a great potential for health services in countries like India.
