Stalin urges PM to allot fertilisers to TN to avoid shortage, increase agri productIon

Chennai, Sep 16 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K.Stalin today urged
Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take prompt action for supply of fertilizers
to the State to avoid shortage in order to increase agricultural production
and also sought additional allocation of Urea, DAP, MOP and NPK for
September 25 cosnider that the production prospects were bright.
In a Demi-Official letter to Mr Modi, copies of which were released to the
media here, he said as the production prospects are bright in order to meet
the demand for Kharif 2025 and upcoming Rabi 2025 seasons, he urged the
Union Government to additionally allot 40,000 MT of Urea, 20,000 MT of DAP,
20,000 MT of MOP and 40,000 MT of NPK Complex for September, 2025 to

He also listed out the firm wise additional allocation requested by the State.
He said Tamil Nadu is one of the important paddy producing States in the
country and the State Government accords highest priority for increasing
agricultural production in the State and increasing the income of the farmers.
The State is implementing targeted, region specific schemes to encourage
farmers to attain maximum productivity, apart from closely monitoring the
timely availability of the inputs, Mr Stalin said.
Pointing out that due to the early onset of monsoon, Paddy cultivation during
this Kharif season was in full swing in Tamil Nadu from June, 2025, the Chief
Minister said as of now, an area of 5.661 Lakh Ha has been covered under
Paddy which is 0.525 Lakh Ha (10%) over and above the previous year’s
coverage of 5.136 Lakh Ha for the corresponding period.
Consequently, a sharp rise in the demand for straight fertilizers is being witnessed
across the state, he noted.
In spite of higher crop coverage due to bountiful monsoon and adequate storage of
water in the major reservoirs, fertilizer manufacturers have not supplied the required
quantity of below Urea, DAP, MOP and Complex fertilizers from April to August this
year as per the supply plan of the union Government and their supply is only around
57% of allocation.
"I, therefore request you to kindly instruct the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers to
ensure that the Fertilizer manufacturers supply the shortfall quantity of 27,823 MT of
Urea, 15,831 MT of DAP, 12,422 MT of MOP and 98,623 MT of NPK Complex immediately
to Tamil Nadu", Mr Stalin said, in the letter to Mr Modi.
"As the production prospects are bright in order to meet the demand for Kharif 2025 and
upcoming Rabi 2025, I also request the union Government to additionally allot 40,000 MT
of Urea, 20,000 MT of DAP, 20,000 MT of MOP and 40,000 MT of NPK Complex for the
month of September, 2025 to Tamil Nadu", he added.

Urea and 10,000 MT of NPK Complex from CIL Kakinada Port, and 13,000 MT of NPK
Complex from FACT.
In total Mr Stalin sought 40,000 MT each of Urea and NPK Complex and 20,000 MT each
of DAP and MOP.
The Chief Minister also urged the Prime Minister to issue suitable instruction to the concerned
