Syrup deaths in MP: Cong demands Minister's resignation

Bhopal, Oct 5 (UNI) In the wake of many children perishing after taking poisonous cough syrup in Madhya Pradesh's Chhindwara district, the state's principal-opposition Congress today placed the government in the dock and demanded removal of Health Minister Rajendra Shukla.
In a statement, Congress state President Jitu Patwari alleged that the dispensation revealed gross insensitivity in the matter.
"Despite the Tamil Nadu government admitting the presence of a poisonous element in the syrup, the Minister continued to give the company a clean chit. After the death of so many children, the syrup has been banned. This amounts to governmental murder of the kids. The dispensation should comprehend moral responsibility and ask the Minister to put in his papers. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav must forthwith remove Mr Shukla from his post," he added.
