Temporary jails in UP for new inmates

Lucknow, Apr 20 (UNI) The Yogi Adityanath government is setting up temporary jails for keeping criminals, who are arrested or have surrendered, in quarantine till they test negative for Covid.
This is being done to ensure that there is no spread of Covid among convicts and undertrials lodged in jails. Director General (DG), prisons, Anand Kumar, said here on Tuesday that all the jail superintendents have been instructed to contact their respective district administrations and start setting up temporary prisons.
''To ensure that there is no spread of the coronavirus from the accused arrested or those surrendered to the other inmates already lodged in different jails of the state, we already gave instructions to open temporary jails with the help of local administration so that all the new accused will be quarantined for a fortnight or till arrival of their report before they will be shifted to regular jails,'' revealed Kumar.
