Tenant farmers' crop loans should be increased to Rs 2000 cr: AP Minister

Eluru, July 15 (UNI) Minister for Housing and I&PR K Parthasarathy underlined the need of increasing the crop loans of tenant farmers to Rs 2000 crore. An interaction with the district officials was organised here on Monday. Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that in the annual credit plan, crop loans to farmers have been targeted at Rs 7,300 crore while the target for tenant farmers’ loans is only Rs 250 crore.
“More than 75 percent of the cultivation in Eluru district is carried out by the tenant farmers and keeping this aspect in mind, the target of crop loans provided to the tenant farmers should be increased to Rs 2000 crore,” the Minister stated, adding that steps should be taken to provide crop loans to the tenant farmers without the consent of the land owner.
The Minister told the officials to take steps to ensure timely delivery of seeds and fertilizers to the farmers and sensitize the farmers to reduce the use of chemical fertilizers and increase the use of traditional fertilizers with natural irrigation. Minister Parthasarathy promised to take steps to remove hyacinth from irrigation ponds, canals and drains.
