Washington, May 18 (UNI) TikTok and the US Justice Department are asking a federal court to issue a decision on the forced divestiture of the social media company by December 6, court documents revealed.
"To ensure that there is adequate time before the Act's prohibitions take effect to request emergency relief from the Supreme Court, if necessary, the parties respectfully ask this Court to issue its decision on the merits of these actions by December 6, 2024," the court document stated on Friday.
TikTok and its parent company ByteDance filed a petition in US federal court last week seeking to overturn a new US law that would ban their application if ByteDance does not sell its US business within nine months, but the law allows the US president to extend the deadline to one year.
