TMC crisis deepens as Sushmita Dev quits Rajya Sabha; reports of mass defection bid intensify turmoil

New Delhi, Jun 10 (UNI) The crisis within the Trinamool Congress deepened dramatically on Wednesday as senior party leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sushmita Dev resigned from the Upper House, becoming the second TMC parliamentarian to quit within a week after veteran leader Sukhendu Sekhar Ray. The development has intensified speculation about a widening revolt within the Mamata Banerjee-led party following its recent electoral setback and raised the prospect of a significant realignment in Parliament.
Dev reportedly met Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman C P Radhakrishnan and formally submitted her resignation from the membership of the House. Her departure comes days after Ray resigned from both the party and the Rajya Sabha, citing what he described as "unbridled corruption" and "anarchical rule" within the TMC.
The resignation of Dev, who serves as the national spokesperson of the party, is being viewed as a major setback for the TMC leadership at a time when it is already battling signs of internal unrest. A former president of the All India Mahila Congress, Dev joined the Trinamool Congress in 2021 after leaving the Congress party. She had contested the 2019 Lok Sabha elections from Silchar but was defeated by BJP candidate Rajdeep Roy. Following her move to the TMC, she was nominated to the Rajya Sabha and emerged as one of the party's prominent national faces.
