Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin on Monday criticised the Union Government's proposed move to rename MGNREGA, a very successful rural livelihood security scheme.
The central government had proposed to introduce Viksit Bharat - Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Grameen) Bill on Monday in the Lok Sabha as part of a supplementary business. The proposed Bill was construed as a move to replace the rural livelihood guarantee scheme in the name of father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi by the opposition parties.
Earlier, Trinamool Congress leader Derek O'Brien has also slammed the move to rename MGNREGA by the government by bringing a new Bill. He said that the move is "an insult to Mahatma Gandhi'.
