Total ban imposed on hunting & trading of Amur Falcons in Tamenglong District

Imphal, Oct 14 (UNI) The District Magistrate of Tamenglong, Dr. L. Angshim Dangshawa, has issued a prohibitory order banning the hunting, catching, killing, and selling of Amur Falcons (Falco amurensis) within Tamenglong District and its adjoining areas with immediate effect.
The order follows a request from the Divisional Forest Officer, Tamenglong Forest Division, seeking urgent administrative action to ensure the protection and conservation of the migratory bird species during their annual arrival in the district.
The Amur Falcon, known for its remarkable transcontinental migration from Siberia and China to southern Africa, arrives in Tamenglong between early October and late November, using the region as a vital roosting site.
