Tottenham signs Japanese defender Takai

London, July 8 (UNI) Tottenham Hotspur has signed 20-year-old Japan international defender Kota Takai from J-League side Kawasaki Frontale for a fee of around five million pounds (6.8 million U.S. dollars).
Takai has agreed on a five-year contract until the end of June 2030 and subject to a work permit.
He moves to the UEFA Europa League champions after 81 appearances for his former club, helping Kawasaki reach the 2025 AFC Champions League final after beating Cristiano Ronaldo's Al-Nassr in the semis.

Australia coach Popovic extends contract

Sydney, June 12 (UNI) Football Australia (FA) on Friday announced that Socceroos head coach Tony Popovic has signed a contract extension through to the 2027 AFC Asian Cup.
In a statement issued ahead of Australia's 2026 FIFA World Cup opening game against Turkiye
in Vancouver on Saturday, the FA said that Popovic has agreed to a new contract to lead the men's national team through the 2027 AFC Asian Cup, which will be held in Saudi Arabia.

Geneva, June 12 (UNI) The International Ski Mountaineering Federation has welcomed a proposal by the International Olympic Committee to expand ski mountaineering's presence at the 2030 Olympic Winter Games in the French Alps.
The IOC Executive Board on Wednesday proposed including five ski mountaineering events in the 2030 Olympic program: men's individual, women's individual, men's sprint, women's sprint and mixed relay.
