Trinidad & Tobago PM Persad-Bissessar, EAM Jaishankar unveil plaque at island where the first Indian indentured labourers arrived

Port of Spain, May 9 (UNI) Trinidad and Tobago Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar and India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar today visited Nelson Island, where they unveiled a commemorative plaque marking the restoration and upgrading of the historic site where the first Indian indentured labourers arrived in 1845.
During the ceremony, Prime Minister Persad-Bissessar reflected on Nelson Island’s profound historical significance as a place connected to the journey, sacrifice and resilience of Indian indentured labourers who arrived in Trinidad and Tobago after crossing the Kala Pani.
She described the island as “memory and testimony,” honouring the enduring ‘Jahajee’ legacy and the contributions of generations who helped shape the culture, identity and development of T&T, a nation located in the southern Caribbean Sea, just off the northeastern coast of South America.

Delhi: action continues on encroachments, illegal constructions

New Delhi, Jun 7 (UNI) Delhi Government’s strict campaign against illegal constructions, encroachments and violations of building safety norms continued across the capital on Sunday. A total of 130 sites across the city’s districts were inspected by the revenue department, and accordingly notices were issued to them, while sealing and required actions were taken at several places.
