Tripura BJP slams Bengal govt over OBC issue

Tripura BJP slams Bengal govt over OBC issue

Agartala, May 24 (UNI) The ruling BJP in Tripura on Friday launched a scathing attack on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, accusing her of "shamelessly indulging in appeasement politics" by granting OBC certificates to Muslims for securing votes.
The reaction came days after the Calcutta High Court invalidated the Other Backward Classes (OBC) certificates granted by the West Bengal government after 2010.
Tripura BJP president Rajib Bhattacharjee lashed out and said, “Only because of an illegal act of the Trinamool government in West Bengal the Calcutta High Court was compelled to strike down about 5 lahk OBC certificates issued by the Mamata Banerjee-led government after TMC came to power in 2011.”
Welcoming the High Court verdict, Bhattacharjee condemned the divisive policies of Banerjee, alleging that she has deprived 178 communities of their rightful benefits as OBC to appease a single community for electoral gains, thus disgracing the status of West Bengal.
Earlier, due to similar corrupt practices in the recruitment process, about 26,000 teachers' lost their jobs as the entire recruitment process was cancelled by the high court, he added.
“Corruption is akin to ornament for the Banerjee government and Trinamool Congress over the past 13 years.
"All anti-social elements took shelter under TMC and have been extorting and running syndicates. There is no administration in West Bengal, and law and order there has collapsed completely,” Bhattacharjee said.
"The arrogance and tyranny of TMC leaders are evident! Police blocked a roadshow of our Chief Minister, Dr. Manik Saha, on Hazra Road in support of BJP candidate Debashree Chowdhury on Thursday, despite having all permissions. This is an insult to democracy and the Constitution. I am sure the people of Bengal will not tolerate this injustice anymore."
