UGC moves SC as Kerala VC interviews begin amid appointment row

Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 6 (UNI) The University Grants Commission (UGC) has moved the Supreme Court, seeking to be impleaded in the review petition filed by Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar regarding Vice-Chancellor (VC) appointments in Kerala’s universities.
The UGC’s intervention intensifies the ongoing controversy, as the Governor has challenged the apex court’s earlier order that allowed Search Committees for VC appointments to be constituted without a UGC representative.
The UGC contends that excluding its nominee violates its regulations, Supreme Court Full Bench judgments, and several High Court verdicts. The intervention signals potential new legal hurdles for the appointment process.
