UP records 4583  fresh Covid cases, active cases near 50K

Lucknow, Aug 12 (UNI) With recording 4583 new cases of novel coronavirus in Uttar Pradesh on Wednesdsay, the total number of pandemic cases in the state has reached to 1,36,238.
The death toll also spiralled, taking the fatalities to 2230 with 54 people succumbed to the deadly virus in a day.
State additional chief secretary, Health Amit Mohan Prasad said that there are record 49,347 active cases in the state while the recovered patients were 84,661 including 4072 people were discharged from hospitals today.
The state government has now focussed on four planks for containing Covid-19 which is surveillance, contact tracing, testing and treatment, Mr Prasad said.
He said that the positivity rate of Covid-19 in the state was below 5 per cent as per the directive of the Union Health ministry. " From August 1 to 11, the positivity rate in the state was 4.8 per cent. Districts like Lucknow Kanpur, Gorakhpur, Deoria and Varanasi witnessed higher positivity rate while districts like Hatras, Baghpat, Mahoba and some others recorded low positivity rate, " he said.
The official said, yesterday 97,911 tests were done and now the total Covid tests in the state has reached another milestone of 34,12,346.
Of the total tests done yesterday, 3083 tests were pool of 5 samples and 164 pools of 10 samples. In the pool of 5 samples 522 were found positive and in the pool of 10 samples 23 were found positive.
Mr Prasad said there are 21,758 positive asymptomatic patients in home isolation, 1627 in private hospitals, 196 in semi paid hotels and rest in the government-run Covid hospitals. He said till date a total of 39,678 asymptomatic patients were in home isolation in which 17,920 have recovered.
The official said 2.40 lakh surveillance teams have visited over 53,913 areas in the state and they have visited 1.69 crore houses to screen over 8.51 crore people of their health.
He said a total of 61,831 Covid help desk have been set up in the state and they have identified 6,43,991 people with symptoms were identified.
