UP was epicenter of first war of independence of 1857: CM Yogi

Lucknow, Nov 16 (UNI) Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday said that the contribution of heroes and freedom fighters to India's independence is unforgettable and the land of Lucknow is unique in this regard.
He said that Uttar Pradesh was the epicenter of the first war of independence of 1857. Martyr Mangal Pandey gave its call in Barrackpore. Dhan Singh Kotwal led it forward in Meerut. In Jhansi, Maharani Lakshmibai led it as an immortal warrior. In Bithoor, Tatya Tope strengthened that wave.
The CM also mentioned Begum Hazrat Mahal, saying that she is remembered as an immortal warrior of the first war of independence, who, along with immortal warriors like warrior Uda Devi Pasi, drove out the foreign invaders. Warrior Uda Devi is not only an inspiration for women's empowerment, but for every Indian.

Victim's parents move SC against acquittal or computation of death sentence

Shimla, Dec 12 (UNI) The family of four-year-old murder victim Yug Gupta has moved the Supreme Court challenging the Himachal Pradesh High Court’s September 23 judgment that commuted the death sentences of two convicts and acquitted the third.
Family sources told UNI that Yug’s father, Vinod Gupta, has filed a Special Leave Petition (SLP) before the apex court, which has been accepted for hearing.
