UP: Youth sentenced to 10 yrs for rape

Chitrakoot (UP), Jan 27 (UNI) A youth was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment and a penalty of Rs 12,000 by a local court here on Friday in a rape case, a prosecution officer said here.
Assistant District Government Counsel (Criminal) Sushil Singh said that on November 7, 2016 a woman was raped by Jairam alias Karia in Rajapur area while she had gone to curt fodder. "Initially the victim attempted to lodge a complaint, but police refused to register the case after which she approached the then Superintendent of Police (SP)," he said.
He said that on the directives of the SP a case was lodged against Jairam. "After investigation the police filed a charge sheet in the court. "After hearing both sides, Special Judge Sanjay K Lal held the accused guilty and sentenced him to 10 years imprisonment," he said.
