US Congressmen grill Blinken over Pakistan's negative role in Afghanistan, ISI's backing for Taliban

Washington, Sep 14 (UNI) Pakistan and its spy agency ISI’s open backing for the Taliban, US tax payers’ money over the past 20 years being funnelled by Islamabad to support the Taliban, the Haqqani network, and other terror groups, and the negative role played by Pakistan in Afghanistan for decades, were among the issues raised by US Congressmen during their grilling of US Secretary of State Antony Blinken in the first Congressional hearing on Afghanistan since the US’s exit.

Congressmen Scott Perry, Mark Green and Bill Keating quizzed Blinken about the US pouring millions of dollars of tax payers’ money to Pakistan, only to see it funnelled to chaperoning the Taliban and the Haqqani network. Mark Green was more direct: he wanted to know if the US was thinking of approaching India as a “staging area for over-the-horizon forces”, in view of the Inter-Services Intelligence agency’s active backing of the Taliban. Keating pointed to Pakistan’s “active, and by so many accounts, negative” role in Afghanistan for decades and sheltering the Taliban.
