Valiant effort by Sushma but no concrete actions by NDA to strengthen her :Cong

New Delhi, Sep 26 (UNI)While terming the speech by External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj at the United Nations General assembly a 'valiant effort', the Congress today, however, said lack of concrete actions by the Narendra Modi government even nine days after the terrorist attack in Uri had only served to weaken her position at the UN. Talking to reporters here, AICC spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi said,'' Whenever an Indian representative speaks on foreign soil, it's not the time for politics. The entire country stands behind him or her. The whole country is with Sushma Swaraj. She did a valiant effort. However, domestic concrete actions by the government are not behind her to strengthen her. Had Sushma gone to UN on the tenth day from the Uri attack with certain concrete steps taken by the government instead of the PM's address at Kerala,Cabinet meet and Jumlas, her position would have been stronger. '' ''They have not called a Parliament session to declare Pakistan a terrorist state. They have not done anything to withdraw the MFN status to Pakistan. They have not imposed severe economic sanctions against Pakistan nor has there been a scaling down of high commissions. They have not done anything on ground for concrete actions, yes some efforts to isolate Pakistan globally but that's not enough. These had to be done before we reached UN. Then our case would have resonated better, that's our unfulfilled aspirations.'' Earlier in a statement, AICC media in charge Randeep Surjewala termed the speech by External Affairs Minister 'disappointing'. He charged her of shying away from calling Pakistan a 'terror state' and said the Modi Government had again failed people by its meek response. ‘’Deeply disappointed by External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj's address in the United Nations. She even steered shy of calling Pakistan a 'terror state'. Strategic ambiguity writ large!,’’ Surjewala said in his reaction to the address by Ms Swaraj at the UN general assembly. Mr Surjewala said that the Modi Government had again failed people by its ‘meek’ response. ''Why is the External Affairs Minister Sushmaji shy of calling 'a spade a spade'in the U.N? Why did we not call upon UN for diplomatic and economic sanctions against Pakistan? Why did the EAM forget to place Pakistan sponsored terrorist attacks in Gurdaspur, Udhampur and attacks in Pompore in the UN?,’’Mr Surjewala said. Accusing the NDA government of still ‘placating’ Pakistan, he said,’’ the Modi Government is still placating Pakistan. If India won't determinedly ask for diplomatic and economic sanctions against Pakistan in the U.N, who will? Modi government again failed us by its meek response,’’Mr Surjewala said. Reiterating the Congress' demand for concrete action against Pakistan on the Uri terror attacks, not just rhetoric, Mr Surjewala said, ''The Nation wants concrete action against rogue Pakistan, not aimless political acronyms and rhetoric The Modi Government has again indulged in flip flops on Pakistan in the U.N and let India down. The much touted offensive of the Modi Government is unreal, misleading and hollow.’’ In her address at the UN, Ms Swaraj today asked Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to stop dreaming about snatching India's territory and called upon the world community to isolate and designate the country which was producing and exporting terrorism. The Minister sought to demolish Mr Sharif's allegations of human rights violations in Kashmir, saying terrorism harboured by Pakistan was itself a greatest violation of human rights as it targeted the innocent. "If a country has become habitual of harbouring terrorism it should be isolated and have no place in the league of nations," said Ms Swaraj. Ms Swaraj told the Pakistan Prime Minister in categorical terms that if he feels he can snatch a part of India, his designs will never succeed. "Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India and will remain so. Stop dreaming about it," she said, attracting another round of applause. Ms Swaraj also targeted Pakistan for the grave human situation in Balochistan, saying that Mr Sharif was accusing India of rights violation in Kashmir but the world should know what was happening in his country. "Those who live in glass houses should not throw stones," she added. UNI AR CJ SB 2334
