Venezuela reports hydrocarbon spill affecting Gulf of Paria coastal regions

Caracas, May 10 (UNI) A hydrocarbon spill originating from Trinidad and Tobago has affected the Gulf of Paria as well as coastal areas of Venezuela, according to an announcement by the Venezuelan government today.
“The Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela expresses its concern to the international community regarding the hydrocarbon spill originating from the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, which has caused serious environmental damage in the Gulf of Paria and along the coastal areas of the states of Sucre and Delta Amacuro,” Foreign Minister Yván Gil said in a statement posted on Telegram.
Caracas stated that preliminary technical assessments indicate impacts on marine zones, coastlines, sensitive ecosystems, and fishing communities. Authorities also warned of potential harm to mangrove forests, wetlands, marine biodiversity, and other ecologically and economically important resources.
