Vijay enhances waiver of farm loan to the tune of Rs 6,000 cr, to benefit 14.43 lakh farmers

Chennai, June 16 (UNI) Amid demands from farmers dissatisfied with the earlier waiver announced by the ruling TVK headed by Chief Minister Vijay, the Tamil Nadu Government on Tuesday enhanced the loan component waiver to the tune of about Rs 6,000 crore from the earlier Rs 50,000 announced on May 25 to Rs 75,000 benefitting more than 14.43 lakh farmers.
A decision to this effect was taken by Vijay after a high level meeting held in the wake of demands from various farmer associations and criticisms from opposition parties, accusing the TVK of going back on its promise of full waiver of farm loans.
The enhanced loan waiver would benefit about 14,43,504 farmers who have availed loans and the government would incur an additional expenditure of Rs 5,932.23 crore annually.
