Nagpur, Oct 14 (UNI) Over 150 women lawyers practising at the Nagpur bench of the Bombay High Court have demanded 30 percent reservation for women in the upcoming elections of the Nagpur High Court Bar Association (HCBA) for the 2026–2029 term.
In a joint representation submitted to the HCBA election committee, the lawyers sought implementation of Supreme Court directives mandating women's representation in bar associations across the country.
They cited judgments such as Supreme Court Bar Association vs B.D. Kaushik and Fozia Rahman vs Bar Council of Delhi, where the apex court and other high courts directed that at least one-third of bar body positions be reserved for women. The women advocates have urged that the election programme, announced on October 1, be revised to incorporate these provisions.
