Chennai, Jun 29 (UNI) With yet another single-day high of 3,949
cases, Tamil Nadu surpassed China's tally, as the total cases
mounted to 86,224, even as death toll rose to 1,141 with 62 more
fatalities on Monday.
China has reported close to 85,000 cases till date and TN's
tally placed it third in the country, behind Maharashtra and
Delhi.
A bulletin issued by the health department said a record number
of 11,40,441 samples of people were tested in 90 government
and private labs till date, including 30,039 samples in the last
24 hours.
While 86,224 samples returned positive, 10,54,217 tested negative.
As many as 2,212 COVID-19 positive patients were discharged after
treatment today, taking the number of recoveries to 47,749.
At present 37,331 patients were undergoing treatment and all of
them were under active medical supervision.
Of the total 1,141 deaths so far, 846 were reported in Chennai
alone, followed by Chengalpattu 87, Tiruvallur 66, Madurai 29,
Kancheepuram 20, Villupuram 14, Tiruvannamalai 10, Ramnad 8,
Tirunelveli 7, Dindigul and Virudhunagar 6 each, Cuddalore 5,
Erode, Thoothukudi, Tiruchirapalli, Vellore 4 each, Pudukottai
and Ranipet 3 each, Kallakurichi, Krishnagiri, Salem, Sivaganga
and Theni 2 each, Coimbatore, Kanyakumari, Namakkal, Thanjavur
and Airport Quarantine 1 each.
With 2,167 fresh cases today, Chennai continued to top the chart
with 55,969 cases, accounting for nearly 70 per cent of the total
cases reported in the state.
Chengalpattu was next to Chennai with 5,242 cases, followed by
Tiruvallur 3,656, Madurai 2,302,Kancheepuram 1,876, Tiruvannamalai
1,808, Vellore 1,241, Cuddalore 1,007, Thoothukudi 903, Villupuram
867 and Ramanathapuram 803.
The rest of the Coronavirus positive cases were reported from other
district in the State, the bulletin added.
