Women's T20WC: Trisha, Shabnam star as India enter Super Six with 60-run win

Women's T20WC: Trisha, Shabnam star as India enter Super Six with 60-run win

Kuala Lumpur, Jan 23 (UNI) Gongadi Trisha's composed knock of 49 runs and a scintillating display of bowling by Shabnam Shaki and company propelled India to a commanding 60-run victory over Sri Lanka in their Group A clash at the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup 2025 on Thursday. The win secured India’s place in the Super Six stage as unbeaten group leaders.
Batting first at the Bayuemas Oval after losing the toss, India were in trouble early, with Pramudi Methsara reducing them to 17/2 in the fourth over. Trisha, however, stood tall amid the chaos, stitching a crucial 31-run partnership with skipper Niki Prasad before steadying the innings further.
Trisha’s knock, featuring five boundaries and a six, ended just one run short of a well-deserved half-century. India finished their innings at 118/9, with Mithila Vinod and Joshitha VJ providing late contributions.
India’s bowlers then dismantled the Sri Lankan batting lineup with ruthless efficiency. Shabnam Shaki struck on the third ball of the chase and finished with figures of 2/9. Supported by Joshitha VJ, Parunika Sisodia, and Aayushi Shukla, India reduced Sri Lanka to 9/4 in just four overs. Despite resistance from Rashmika Sewwandi, who scored 15, Sri Lanka could only manage 58/9 in their 20 overs.
Trisha’s resilience with the bat and the collective effort by the bowlers underscored India’s dominance as they remained undefeated in the group stage. With this performance, India emerge as strong contenders for the title heading into the Super Six stage.
Brief Scores:
India: 118/9 in 20 overs (Gongadi Trisha 49, Pramudi Methsara 2/10)
Sri Lanka: 58/9 in 20 overs (Rashmika Sewwandi 15, Parunika Sisodia 2/7, Shabnam Shaki 2/9)
India won by 60 runs. UNI BDN SSP
