New Delhi, Aug 5 (UNI) The Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Wednesday objected to the 'Bhoomi Pujan' function at Ayodhya, in which Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation for Ram Mandir here as a "negation of the secular democratic character of the Indian Republic".
"This 'bhumi pujan' function is a naked exploitation of people's religious sentiments for partisan, political purposes and brazenly violates the letter and spirit of the Indian Constitution," party General Secretary Sitaram Yechury said in a series of tweets.
On the role of the Uttar Pradesh Government, he said the state, taking over the construction of the temple in the presence of Governor Ananiben Patel and Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath was a "negation of the secular democratic character of the Indian Republic".
