Mysuru, Aug 10 (UNI) In a provocative statement, former Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa on Monday called on Chief Minister Siddaramaiah to dissolve the state assembly and face new elections if he truly believes his government is performing well.
Addressing a vibrant gathering at the valedictory convention of the BJP-JD(S) alliance ‘Mysuru-Chalo Padayatre,’ held at Maharaja’s College Grounds, Yediyurappa made a direct challenge to Siddaramaiah.
"If you have courage, dissolve the assembly and let us go for the election. Show your strength. You could have won for any one of the reasons; if we go to the polls now, it is for sure BJP and JD(S) will gain power by winning 130 to 140 seats," Yediyurappa declared.
His remarks came amidst a backdrop of criticism aimed at the current administration. Yediyurappa voiced his discontent with Siddaramaiah’s leadership, asserting that "The people of Karnataka are disappointed with the lack of progress." He further claimed that a new election would see the BJP-JD(S) coalition emerge victorious and that the electorate would vote against the Congress party.
Yediyurappa also flayed Siddaramaiah's record, referencing allegations of controversy highlighted by Union Minister Pralhad Joshi. "Siddaramaiah might claim to be a clean politician, but his record is anything but," Yediyurappa said.
Additionally, Yediyurappa took aim at Karnataka Congress President DK Shivakumar, accusing him of arrogance. "Shivakumar’s arrogance is evident. He must remember that the real power lies with the voters. His misconduct will eventually catch up with him," he warned.
The event was further marked by the release of Yediyurappa's new book, which alleges various scandals involving Congress leaders, adding fuel to the ongoing political debate in the state.
