Child dies of unknown hepatitis in Greece

Athens, July 7 (UNI/Sputnik) Greece recorded the first child's death of unknown acute hepatitis on Wednesday, the National Public Health Organization (EODY) said.
"It was a 13-month-old baby, who has been delivered to a private pediatric clinic due to fever for two days and fatigue. The baby has been diagnosed with liver failure and cerebral edema during tests, and died despite the doctors' efforts," the authority said in a statement.
Some 920 similar hepatitis cases have been recorded in 33 countries around the world. In 45 cases, liver transplantation was required, and 18 cases resulted in death, the statement said, adding that there has been a steady decline in cases worldwide in recent weeks.
