NIFT graduate Vaibhav Anant turns plastic fight into ₹2 crore-a-month green startup

Bengaluru, Aug 5 (UNI) At a time when plastic pollution has emerged as a major environmental challenge, Bengaluru-based entrepreneur and NIFT alumnus Vaibhav Anant is building a sustainable alternative through his green-tech startup Bambrew, which manufactures biodegradable packaging solutions using natural materials such as bamboo, sugarcane husk, wood pulp and seaweed.
Founded in 2018, Bambrew has grown into an eco-friendly packaging company with a reported monthly turnover of around Rs 2 crore, offering plastic-free alternatives to businesses across India and overseas markets. The company claims its products have helped prevent over 10,000 tonnes of plastic waste so far and are available in more than 10 countries.
Vaibhav, who completed his B.FTech in Fashion Technology from the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT), Bengaluru, began his career with an edtech startup in Delhi. However, the government's move in 2018 to phase out single-use plastics prompted him to explore sustainable packaging solutions.
Driven by concerns over plastic pollution, he quit his corporate job and launched Bambrew in August 2018, initially producing eco-friendly straws as alternatives to plastic straws. The startup later expanded into a wide range of biodegradable packaging products.
Bambrew uses renewable materials including bamboo, wood pulp, sugarcane and seaweed to manufacture compostable packaging. The company says many of its raw materials are sourced through tribal communities, supporting local livelihoods while promoting sustainable practices.
Explaining the choice of bamboo, Vaibhav said it is among India's most easily available natural resources and can be harvested for decades. He added that India, being one of the world's largest bamboo producers, offers a strong raw material base for sustainable industries.
The company also says its bamboo and wood pulp materials carry Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification, ensuring responsible sourcing.
Over the years, Bambrew has partnered with major brands including Amazon, Flipkart, Nykaa, 1mg, Puma, BigBasket, Myntra, Chumbak, Aditya Birla Group and Accessorize London for sustainable packaging solutions.
Beyond business-to-business packaging, the startup has entered the direct-to-consumer market with biodegradable garbage bags, bamboo paper towels, toilet rolls, sanitary disposal pouches and pet waste disposal bags.
With businesses facing increasing pressure to reduce their environmental footprint and consumers becoming more conscious about sustainability, Bambrew's journey reflects the rising demand for eco-friendly alternatives in the global packaging industry.
