Supreme Court dismisses bail plea of suspended DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar in bribery case

Chandigarh, April 10 (UNI) The Supreme Court of India has dealt a significant blow to suspended Punjab Police DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar by dismissing his bail application in connection with a high-profile corruption case. A three-judge bench, presided over by Chief Justice Suryakant, observed that granting bail at this juncture would be inappropriate.
The apex court upheld the earlier decision of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, noting that several key witnesses are yet to be examined and that releasing the accused before the conclusion of the probe could adversely impact the integrity of the ongoing investigation. However, the bench provided a slight window of relief, stating that Bhullar may approach the High Court again if the trial does not commence within the next two months.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has significantly widened its net as the probe into the suspended officer’s activities has reportedly unearthed the involvement of several other IAS and IPS officers from Punjab.
