'Missing Link' dispute: Prithviraj Chavan hits back at Fadnavis, alleges large-scale corruption in road contracts

Mumbai, Jul 9 (UNI) Former Maharashtra Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Prithviraj Chavan on Thursday launched a blistering attack on the state government over the Pune-Mumbai Expressway 'Missing Link' project, alleging that massive corruption in road contracts is fueling political instability in the state.
Chavan refuted allegations leveled by Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who had accused the former Congress-led government of stalling the infrastructure project.
"The 'Missing Link' project was conceptualized during our tenure. In December 2013, I had merely put a stay on it to ensure a comprehensive safety and technical audit, including 'wind tunnel' studies, as such a tunnel project was unprecedented in India at the time. I was never opposed to the project design," Mr. Chavan clarified.
