New Delhi, Jun 11 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday underscored his government's commitment to the welfare and prosperity of farmers, highlighting a series of initiatives aimed at boosting agricultural productivity, strengthening farm incomes and modernising India's rural economy as part of the BJP-led NDA government's outreach marking "12 Years of Kisan Samriddhi".
In a series of posts on social media platform X, Modi said that the welfare of farmers remains among the government's highest priorities and stressed that sustained efforts have been made over the past decade to equip the agricultural sector with modern technologies and infrastructure.
“The welfare of farmers is among our highest priorities. That is why we have consistently focused on providing them with modern agricultural facilities and technologies,” the Prime Minister said. He noted that initiatives involving drones, Soil Health Cards and the promotion of natural fertilizers are helping farmers improve crop productivity and adopt more sustainable farming practices.
Highlighting measures to improve access to credit, Modi said the Kisan Credit Card scheme has emerged as a crucial support mechanism for farmers, livestock rearers and fishermen by enabling them to obtain low-interest loans with greater ease. He also pointed to the government's “Seed to Market” approach, saying it is helping farmers secure better prices for their produce by strengthening the agricultural value chain from production to sale.
“For agriculture and other needs, the Kisan Credit Card has proved extremely useful for farmers, livestock rearers and fishermen by providing easy access to low-interest loans. Our ‘Seed to Market’ initiative is also proving highly effective in ensuring that farmers receive fair prices for their produce,” he said.
The Prime Minister described farmers as the backbone of the nation's food security, nutrition and economic prosperity, reiterating the government's resolve to improve their quality of life. “Our farmer brothers and sisters are the pillars of the nation’s food security, nutrition and prosperity. Our government is leaving no stone unturned to make their lives easier,” he said.
Modi also highlighted flagship schemes such as the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi and the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, stating that these initiatives are providing income security while making agriculture more resilient and sustainable. He further emphasised the role of the PM-KUSUM scheme in expanding access to solar energy for agricultural activities, which has helped reduce farming costs and improve energy availability in rural areas.
The Prime Minister's remarks come as the NDA government marks 12 years in office and seeks to showcase its achievements across sectors, with agriculture remaining a central pillar of its governance narrative. Over the past decade, the Centre has launched a range of programmes focused on direct income support, crop insurance, agricultural mechanisation, digital services and renewable energy integration in farming, aimed at improving productivity and strengthening the livelihoods of millions of farmers across the country.
The government's outreach campaign has sought to highlight what it describes as a decade of transformative reforms in agriculture, while reaffirming its commitment to empowering farmers and enhancing rural prosperity through technology-driven and welfare-oriented initiatives. UNI SKA AAB
