1,090 police, fire, HG&CD, correctional services personnel awarded gallantry, service medals

New Delhi, Aug 14 (UNI) A total of 1,090 personnel of police, fire, Home Guard and Civil Defence (HG&CD) and correctional services have been awarded gallantry and service medals on the occasion of the Independence Day.
As many as 233 personnel have been awarded Medal for Gallantry (GM), 99 personnel with President’s Medal for Distinguished Service (PSM) and 758 personnel awarded Medal for Meritorious Service (MSM), a Home Ministry statement said.
The Medal for Gallantry (GM) is awarded on the ground of rare conspicuous act of gallantry in saving life and property, or in preventing crime or arresting criminals, the risk incurred being estimated with due regard to the obligations and duties of the officer concerned.

New Delhi, May 14 (UNI) India on Thursday said two LPG carriers transporting fuel cargo for the country have safely crossed the strategically crucial Strait of Hormuz, while confirming that an Indian sailing vessel sank in Omani waters after an onboard fire incident, with all crew members rescued safely.
