14 accused convicted in single day in Vigilance Cases in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, Nov 30 (UNI) In a significant development, 14 accused persons, including five former sarpanches, two Assistant Engineers (AEs), one accountant, one tax collector, and five others, were on Saturday convicted and sentenced in various vigilance cases involving corruption, bribery, and disproportionate assets.
Five former sarpanches from the Udala block in Mayurbhanj district and an electrical supplier were convicted in a vigilance corruption case. They were charge-sheeted by Odisha Vigilance under Sections 13(2) read with 13(1)(c)(d) of the Prevention of Corruption (P.C.) Act, 1988, and Sections 409, 468, 477-A, and 120-B of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for misappropriating government funds by favouring the supplier and installing substandard sodium vapor lights in their locality.
The Special Judge, Vigilance, Baripada, sentenced all the convicts to three years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed fines.
