2 dead in residential fire in Philippine capital

Manila, Feb 24 (UNI) Two people died after a fire gutted a crowded residential community in Mandaluyong City, Metro Manila, the city's disaster risk reduction and management office said on Saturday.
The Bureau of Fire Protection said the victims, a woman and her son, were trapped when flame engulfed their home and 20 other houses in the neighborhood on Friday night.
It added that it took firefighters nearly three hours, until early Saturday morning, to completely extinguish the fire that affected at least 119 families or almost 500 residents.

At least 6 killed in clashes between Sudanese army, paramilitary forces in N Darfur

Khartoum, April 15 (UNI) At least six civilians were killed and 61 others injured in clashes between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces in El Fasher, the capital city of North Darfur State, the Sudanese Doctors' Union said.
The injured were still arriving at the hospital despite a shortage of equipment and blood donors, the non-governmental union said in a statement.
