AAP councillors protest in MCD, accuse BJP of ignoring employee demands and health crisis

New Delhi. Oct 14 (UNI) Councillors from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) staged a protest inside the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) house today wearing black bands in solidarity with striking municipal employees. The protest highlighted the ongoing stalemate over employee demands and a concurrent rise in vector-borne diseases in the capital.
The AAP councillors, led by the Leader of Opposition in the MCD, Ankush Narang, accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led corporation administration of ignoring the plight of Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS) and Community Facilities Workers (CFW) who have been on a hunger strike for 16 days. The employees are demanding equal pay, dearness allowance, and a minimum grade pay of Rs 27,900.
Narang claimed that the protest by the employees has led to a breakdown in sanitation services, exacerbating public health risks. He cited official reports to state that cases of dengue, malaria, and chikungunya have reached a five-year high, with 81 new dengue cases reported in the past week, bringing the total to 840 this season. He alleged that the BJP is withholding the latest health report from the public.
