AAP leaders arrested in Gujarat amid farmer protests

New Delhi, Oct 16 (UNI) Aam Aadmi Party leaders Praveen Ram and Rajubhai Karpada were arrested in Gujarat today after supporting farmers protesting against agricultural practices they describe as exploitative.
The arrests have sparked political controversy, with AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal accusing the state's BJP government of "repression" and drawing parallels to Congress's political decline in the state decades ago.
Farmers across Gujarat have been holding demonstrations in recent days, with a major gathering occurring on October 12 in Hadad village of Botad district. The protests focus on two main issues: the "Karada Pratha" system, where farmers allege traders renege on agreed prices after taking partial delivery of crops, and transportation costs that farmers say they are unfairly forced to bear when traders require delivery to distant locations.
