Afghanistan extend tenure of Trott for 2025

Afghanistan extend tenure of Trott for 2025

Kabul, Dec 10 (UNI) Former England international Jonathan Trott will continue to remain the head coach of Afghanistan till the end of 2025.
Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) confirmed the extension and added that it comes on the back of a successful run for the team under Trott’s tenure.
“The decision comes in after his successful 2.5-year tenure, during which he made significant contributions to the team’s progress and development.”
Afghanistan achieved significant success in ICC events under Trott. In the 2023 Cricket World Cup, Afghanistan finished at the sixth place, with wins over England, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, and the Netherlands, an ICC report said.
They went even better in the T20 World Cup 2024, where the Asian side beat Australia, Bangladesh, and New Zealand, and reached their first-ever semi-finals.
Afghanistan are currently on a multi-format tour of Zimbabwe.
Trott will coach the side for ODIs, and will remain unavailable in T20I and Test legs due to personal commitments. In his place, Hamid Hassan will oversee the side. Nawroz Mangal will be the assistant coach during the series.
