Aizawl, Sep 8 (UNI) The Aizawl-based Centre for Environment and Social Justice (CESJ) is set to conduct a census of trees and wild animals within the land occupied by the Assam Rifles before the paramilitary force relocates from the heart of Aizawl to Zokhawsang.
In a press statement, CESJ leaders said that they met with Brigadier Girish Upadhya, DIG and commander of the 23 Sector Assam Rifles, on Saturday to discuss the proposed census. The senior leader of CESJ, Vanramchhuangi, popularly known as Ruatfela Nu, a prominent activist, said that the Assam Rifles has approved the initiative.
Vanramchhuangi explained that the census aims to assess the trees and wildlife on the land that will be vacated, ensuring environmental protection once the Assam Rifles shifts its battalion headquarters and other establishments out of Aizawl.
