Alcaraz defeats Sinner to win US Open men’s singles title

New York, Sept 8 (UNI) Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz delivered a masterclass of athleticism and shot-making to defeat Italy’s Jannik Sinner 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 today IST at Flushing Meadows, reclaiming the US Open men’s singles crown and underlining his place at the summit of world tennis.
The 22-year-old, seeded second, showcased a blend of power, tactical intelligence and unwavering mental strength in front of a capacity Arthur Ashe Stadium fans. With this victory, Alcaraz secured his third Grand Slam title, following earlier wins at the US Open in 2022 and Wimbledon in 2023, and gained sweet revenge for his loss to Sinner in the Wimbledon final earlier this year.
The clash between Alcaraz and Sinner, widely hailed as the defining rivalry of modern men’s tennis, once again lived up to its billing. The two have traded blows on the sport’s biggest stages over the past two years, each pushing the other to new levels of performance. On this occasion, however, Alcaraz proved to be the sharper and more versatile player, using his superior serve and relentless forehand to dictate rallies.

India retain top position in Men's ODI team rankings after annual update

Dubai, May 11 (UNI) India have maintained their position at the top of the ICC Men’s ODI Team Rankings following the annual update carried out on Monday, but their lead over New Zealand has reduced from eight to five points.
India have slipped from 119 to 118 points even as New Zealand have gained two points to move up to 113, with reigning World Cup champions Australia third with an unchanged 109 points.
The only change in the top 10 positions is that South Africa (102) have overtaken Pakistan (98) to fourth position.
