An ex-Serviceman's success story in farming from Hamirupur leveraging govt subsidy scheme

Hamirpur, Jan 11(UNI) The efforts of Chief Minister Thakur Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu to increase farmers' income and strengthen the rural economy by promoting agriculture, horticulture, animal husbandry, and other related activities are yielding good results at the ground level. A glimpse of this can be seen in Kotlu village of Patta area in Bhoranj sub-division.
Taking advantage of the various schemes and facilities launched by the state government to strengthen the rural economy, retired soldier Virendra Singh of Kotlu village is now selling vegetables worth Rs. 4 to 5 lakhs every season, and he has now also started venturing into mushroom production, poultry, and animal husbandry.
After retiring from the army, Virendra Singh wanted to cultivate cash crops instead of traditional crops on his ancestral land so that he could earn a good income at home. In the initial stages, he faced many difficulties. The biggest problems were irrigation and tilling the fields. During this time, he learned about various subsidy schemes of the Agriculture and Horticulture Department. He applied for a power tiller tractor for tilling the fields and sprinkler and drip irrigation equipment for irrigation.
