Anisimova stuns Swiatek, storms into semifinals

New York, Sep 4 (UNI) American eighth seed Amanda Anisimova produced the performance of her career today IST, defeating world No. 2 and Wimbledon champion Iga Swiatek 6-4, 6-3 in the quarterfinals of the US Open, registering the biggest upset of the tournament so far and gaining sweet revenge for her humiliating defeat in the Wimbledon final just 53 days ago.
The packed Arthur Ashe Stadium witnessed a turnaround story. At Wimbledon, Anisimova had won no games, losing 6-0, 6-0 to Swiatek. But on the hard courts of Flushing Meadows, the 24-year-old New Jersey native came out fearless, striking her heavy groundstrokes with precision and aggression, keeping Swiatek on the defensive throughout.
The opening set was tight, with both players exchanging breaks early. By 4-4, Anisimova had struck 12 winners to Swiatek’s seven. She pounced in the 10th game, breaking the Pole’s serve to seal the set 6-4. The victory roar from the American and the deafening spectator reaction underlined the significance of that moment—she had already achieved more than at Wimbledon.
