Bangladesh Chief Advisor Yunus reaffirms interim govt commitment to holding ‘free, fair’ national polls by Feb 2026

Dhaka, Sep 17 (UNI) Bangladesh’s Chief Advisor Mohammed Yunus has reaffirmed the interim government’s commitment to hold the general elections in February 2026, promising that the polls will be “free, fair, transparent and festive.”
Speaking at a meeting with a delegation of Members of the European Parliament (MEPs), led by Mounir Satouri, at the State Guest House Jamuna, Yunus said the polls would take place in the first half of February, just before Ramadan, in line with the timeline already announced by the interim government, reports Business Standard BD.
“The general election will be peaceful, fair, transparent and festive,” Yunus said, reiterating his administration’s commitment to holding the vote as scheduled despite attempts by what he described as “certain forces” to delay the process.

Washington/ Tehran, Jun 8 (UNI): After reports emerged that the US Treasury Department is considering a plan to redirect frozen Iranian assets toward compensating American-aligned Gulf states for damage linked to Iranian military actions during the ongoing conflict, Iran dismissed the proposal as “absurd” and “ridiculous.”
Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei, quoted by Iranian media, rejected claims that Washington is considering using Iran’s blocked funds for reconstruction or compensation in Gulf states affected by regional conflict.
